Sirona is a tavern owning witch in Hogsmeade Village that players will meet in the new Harry Potter video game, Hogwarts Legacy. The game has faced fierce calls for a boycott ever since it was announced due to Potter creator J.K. Rowling's divisive comments about the trans community.
Rowling sparked an intense backlash among fans and across social media for supporting and using anti-trans rhetoric, with some members and allies of the trans community refusing to buy the game in solidarity.
Avalanche Software, the game's developers, have been keen to point out however that Hogwarts Legacy was created without Rowling's involvement. What they've been less keen to emphasise is that Rowling will still profit from it.
The game, set 100 years before Harry Potter first headed off to Hogwarts, has received rave reviews amid the questions being raised on the ethics of supporting Rowling's works.
EB Games and JB Hi-FI stores across Australia have reported low stock levels for the Playstation 5 and Xbox editions of the game since its release.
Meanwhile on PC, the title rocketed to the top of Steam's best selling chart, and reached a peak of 807,112 concurrent players on February 11.
