The students from 89 schools across NSW will gather with their families and teachers in Western Sydney for the annual First in Course ceremony on December 13.
Deputy premier and education minister Prue Car congratulated all 128 students who achieved a First in Course mark.
Footage has been released of the moment she called some of the top achievers including Jeremy Wong, who topped four language subjects.
"I would suggest that you sit down because I'm calling you with some extremely good news," Ms Car said.
"You have placed first place in the state in classical Greek continuous, classical Greek extension, Latin continuous and Latin extension."
"Oh! That's exciting. That's surprising, thank you," Mr Wong said.
"You should be so proud of yourself," Ms Car said.
Six students achieve first in multiple subjects
The state's top performers are being recognised ahead of all 67,234 students receiving their HSC results from 6am on December 14.
Six students have placed first in more than one course and 28 achieved equal first place.
The ceremony is bringing together students from areas including Orange in the central west, Albury in the south, Lismore and Coffs Harbour in northern NSW, Wollongong in the Illawarra and Newcastle in the Hunter, as well as those from Sydney.
Ms Car congratulated all the students who achieved a First in Course mark.
"Our First in Course students should feel proud of the dedication they have shown and the skill they have displayed throughout this year," she said.
"Reaching a First In Course mark is a fantastic achievement, and I hope all our students can take time to celebrate their work over the summer break."
The community can watch the First in Course ceremony online from 1pm on December 13 on the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) website.
All Round Achievers, Top Achievers and Distinguished Achievers will be published on the NESA website on December 14 at midday.
NSW HSC and ACT Senior Secondary Certificate students can access their ATAR on the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) website from 9am on December 14.
